Back to Electical Plans

Care must be taken to ensure the proper number and type of electrical outlets and lights are designed into the building for the application that is to be used. For example, the kitchen would need a dedicated circuit for the electric cook stove and oven, and/or one for the refrigerator, not to mention the ground fault circuit interrupters. Remember the attic lighting and HVAC unit, the garage and exterior outlets. Place the lights and switches in their proper location. Place the light switches on the wall nearest to the door handle for ease of access when entering a room, if you have two entrances to a room put a switch at each entrance, typically the living room, dining room, family room and bed rooms would get an electrical outlet no more than six feet apart on every wall and at least one on a short wall. Follow your local code requirements.
