Minimum U-shaped kitchen area (maximum
3 persons) is 80 sq. ft. and minimum width of walking
space is 5 feet. Although typical size for this style
is 8' width and 10' depth, size may vary
based on design style.
Countertops are typically 36”
high and 25” deep with overhang. Cabinets are
18” above countertops and 12” deep.
Refrigerator, 15” of min. counter
space from latch side of refrigerator and 40-42”
clearance from face of refrigerator to wall or facing
countertop
Sink, 18 to 36” of counter space
on one side of sink and 24 – 36” on opposite
side of sink. Dishwasher option: Provide 24”
of counter space above the dishwasher for loading
& unloading dishes. A 14” minimum clearance
from center of the bowl to the turn in the counter,
(to provide standing room). A 40 – 42”
minimum clearance distance from the wall or counter
facing the sink.
Stove/Oven – 18”-24”
clearance counter space on either side of stove. 14”
minimum clearance between center of front burner to
the turn in the counter (to provide standing room).
A 16” minimum clearance between center of the
front burner and nearest piece of high equipment (i.e.,
refrigerator) or wall. A 36” – 42”
counter space between range and nearest piece of equipment
(i.e., sink) and 40” – 42” inches
from the wall or counter facing the stove.
